Over 23 million automobiles manufactured and sold in China in 2014

Sales and production numbers of Chinese automobiles have exceeded 23 million units in 2014, Xinhua reported today, citing statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Those figures mean that the Chinese automobile market is the world’s largest for the sixth year running.

According to the CAAM statistics, a total of 23.72 million automobiles were manufactured from January 2014 to December 2014, representing year-on-year growth of 7.26 percent. Sales figures for the same time period totaled 23.49 million automobiles, up 6.86 percent from the previous year. The majority of this growth came from passenger automobiles. 19.91 million passenger automobiles were manufactured, while 19.71 million passenger automobiles were sold. Production and sales figures for commercial vehicles totaled 3.81 million vehicles and 3.79 million vehicles, respectively.

The year 2014 marked a turning point for new energy vehicles. New energy vehicle production and sales numbers totaled 78,500 vehicles and 74,800 vehicles, respectively. The two numbers are over three times greater than figures from 2013. Sales of pure electrics over doubled from 2013 to 2014, while those of hybrids grew eightfold.
